The Stella Maris International School of (SMIS) formerly Princess Cinderella Kindergarten and Primary School (PCKPS) obtained its national recognition from the Ministry of Education of Mozambique (ALVARA),  a private non-sectarian school and was the first accredited English as medium of instruction in Nampula, Mozambique.

The SMIS School was founded by a courageous and passionate of the late Mrs. Marciana Serno-Sablay to help, maintain and impart students with the highest standards of education in various places of Mozambique.

The school was established in the year 2001 with 16 pupils at different levels. It was first housed at Bairro Muahivire. A year later, its doors opened to primary grades. Every year thereafter, a new grade level was added until the whole Elementary Department was completed.  The enrollment kept on increasing rapidly, thus in the year 2007, the school was moved to Avenida Das F.P.L.M.

Due to the high demand of quality education, the Stella Maris International School has branched out to various places in the province of Mozambique namely, SMIS Pemba, SMIS Beira, SMIS Quelimane and SMIS Nacala.

On the 24th of January 2008, Stella Maris International School was awarded an International Center of Studies by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), one of the world’s leading assessment providers.

The school is qualified to teach and examine a range of internationally accepted qualifications including C.I.E., I.G.C.S.E (International General Curriculum for Secondary Education), A and AS level (Advanced Subsidiary)

The school guided by the Cambridge curriculum, envisions itself in developing the human person, contributing to the welfare of the society and creating a community of believers through education.

Now, approximately 90% of the students are Mozambican and offers a complete level of education listed below:

                Pre-School          : Playgroup, Preparatory, Kindergarten I and Kindergarten II

                Grade School     : Grade 1 up to Grade 6

                High School       : Grade 7 up to Grade 11

                Cambridge IGCSE for Grade 11 and AS/A for the Grade 12 students

In response to the present challenges, the school reiterates greater concern on the drive towards the future, the quest for partnership with other sectors in the society and drive for excellence and relevance.
